Kristie Davis and Clarissa Chun have accomplished plenty in their women’s freestyle wrestling careers.

Davis (Oklahoma City, Okla./New York AC), formerly Kristie Marano, is a two-time World champion who has won a U.S. record nine World medals.

Chun (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) has a World title of her own, in addition to a top-five finish in the Olympics.

Both wrestlers are looking for more this season. Davis and Chun are scheduled to compete in the Grand Prix of Germany on May 21-23 in Dormagen, Germany.

“This will be a great opportunity for Kristie and Clarissa to get some matches under their belt before the World Team Trials,” U.S. National Coach Terry Steiner said. “They both need some matches to get their timing back and get the feel for competing again. You can’t simulate that in the wrestling room.”

Davis, 31, returns to the mat for the first time since she placed third at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Since then, she got married, moved to Oklahoma City and gave birth to her second daughter. Davis competes at 72 kg/158.5 lbs.

Davis won a silver medal in her last trip to the World Championships in 2007 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Chun, 28, is coming back from a shoulder injury she suffered just before the 2009 World Championships. She recently won the Pan American Championships in Mexico at 48 kg/105.5 lbs.

Chun placed fifth in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, before winning a World title later that year in Tokyo, Japan.

She fell short of a medal in the 2009 Worlds while trying to compete with the injured shoulder.

“Kristie and Clarissa have both been big stars for us and have proven themselves against the best girls in the World,” Steiner said. “It will be good to get them back on the mat to see what they can do.”

Steiner said a number of top European countries will compete in the event in Germany.

“It will be a good gauge for them to see where they are at,” Steiner said. “It will give them some good experience before the Trials.”

The U.S. World Team Trials are scheduled for June 11-12 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
