A record four wrestlers, Logan Stieber (125) of Monroeville (Ohio) High, twins Andrew (145) and Dylan Alton (152) of Mill (Hall (Pa.) Central Mountain High and Marshall Peppelman (160) of Harrisburg (Pa.) Central Dauphin High earned repeat selections to the 14-member First Team as the 25th annual ASICS All-America Wrestling Team was announced today.

The ASICS All-America Team, selected by a nationwide panel of wrestling experts, is the only national all-star team for which wrestlers enrolled in all four high-school grades are eligible. ASICS is a title sponsor of the ASICS Vaughan USA Wrestling Fargo Junior National Championships and is a major benefactor of the sport at all levels.

“This team represents the best of the best in our schools today,” said Neil Duncan and Nick Gallo of ASICS and TW Promotions, Inc. “We are proud to have these young men, with their talent and work ethic, representing us. They are clearly the World and Olympic champions of the future.”

Members of the First Team, as well as the ASICS Wrestler of the Year, will be honored prior to the finals of the ASICS Vaughan USA Wrestling Junior National Freestyle Championships in July at Fargo, N.D.

The ASICS All-America Team includes eight wrestlers at each of the 14 high school weight classes – the First, Second, and Third Teams and five Honorable Mention selections. Wrestlers are considered at the weight class at which they competed in their state tournament or the National Prep Championships this year.

Stieber, a four-time Ohio Division 3 state champion, was named to the First Team for the third time. Led by the Altons and Peppelman, Pennsylvania placed a record eight wrestlers on the First Team. Sophomore Nick Roberts (103) of Boswell North Star High and seniors Josh Dziewa (135) of Holland Council Rock South High, Josh Kindig (140) of Schuylkill Haven Blue Mountain High, Spencer Myers (215) of Selinsgrove High and Michael McMullan (285) of Kingston Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School rounded out a Pennsylvania group that claimed more than half the First Team spots.

The only other four-time state champion on the First team was Derek Garcia (171) of Sedro Woolley (Wash.) High. Ryak Finch (119) of Safford (Ariz.) High was a three-time state champion. The only other underclassman on the First Team, junior Evan Silver (112) of Blairstown Township (N.J.) Blair Academy, and McMullan are two-time National Prep champions, and Silver’s Blair Academy teammate, senior Mike Evans (189), won his first National Prep title. The other First Team members, Keith Surber (130) of O’Fallon (Ill.) High and Myers, each won their first state titles this year.

A record 15 high schools had multiple wrestlers selected. Monroeville, which won the Ohio Division 3 state title this year, and Blair Academy led all schools with four overall selections each. Blair Academy had two First Team selections and another to the Second Team, and Central Mountain also had two First Team members. Kansas City (Mo.) Park Hill High and Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward High each had three wrestlers selected. Eleven other schools had two: Central Dauphin, Central Mountain, Wyoming Seminary, Apple Valley (Minn.) High, Brandon (Fla.) High, Long Branch (N.J.) High, Omaha (Neb.) North High, Santa Ana (Calif.) Calvary Chapel High, Virginia Beach (Va.) Frank W. Cox High, West Fargo (N.D.) High and Wilmington (Dell.) St. Marks High, each had two wrestlers selected.

The team also includes three brother combinations. In addition to the Altons, Logan Stieber was joined by junior brother Hunter (119), along with senior twins Chris (135) and Nick Dardanes (140) of Oak Park (Ill.) Oak Park-River Forest High.

The 14 First Team members combined to post 30 state high school or National Prep championships, along with eight Junior National and 11 Cadet National titles. The Second and Third Teams rival the First Team. The Second Team combined for 36 state or National Prep titles, including a five-time champion, a four-time champions and five three-time champions, to go with two Junior National and six Cadet National titles. The Third Team boasts 27 combined state titles, one Junior National and seven Cadet National crowns.
