The U.S. Olympic Committee has announced its Twitter voting is now open for its April Male & Female Athletes of the Month.
Fans are encouraged to vote and re-tweet the poll links.
Representing USA Wrestling are Greco-Roman wrestler Justin Ruiz and women’s freestyle wrestler Kelsey Campbell. Both won gold medals at the 2010 U.S. Open Wrestling Championships in Cleveland, Ohio. Campbell was named Outstanding Wrestler in the women’s division. Ruiz also added a gold medal at the Pan American Championships in Monterrey, Mexico.

Sport: Men’s Greco-Roman Wrestling
Athlete: Justin Ruiz
Position: 96 kg/211.5 lbs. in Greco-Roman wrestling
Ruiz won two major events within a week in late April. He claimed a gold medal at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. at the U.S. Open Wrestling Championships, the annual national championships on the Senior level in Cleveland, Ohio, April 23-24.
He won five matches on the way to the title, including a victory over John Lorenz of the U.S. Army in the finals, 2-0, 1-0. Ruiz won five bouts in the tournament. He opened with a technical fall over Joseph Sheffield, then pinned Charles Lewis. In the quarterfinals, he stopped veteran Justin Millard. He defeated 2006 World Team member Jake Clark in the semifinals. It was his sixth career U.S. Open title.
He also won a gold medal at the Pan American Championships in Monterrey, Mexico, April 30. Ruiz won four straight matches in his five-athlete round-robin competition, including a clutch victory over defending Pan American champion and eventual runner-up Yasmany Lugo of Cuba. He was the only U.S. Greco-Roman
The other athletes who he defeated at the Pan American Championships were Joel Mauricio Lopez of Mexico, Erwin Jose Caraballo of Venezuela and Davi Jose Albino of Brazil.
Ruiz retired after the 2008 Olympic Trials, but made a return to competition this fall. He was a 2005 World bronze medalist.

Athlete: Kelsey Campbell
Position: 59 kg/130 lbs. in women’s freestyle wrestling
Campbell won a gold medal at 59 kg/130 lbs. and was named Outstanding Wrestler at the U.S. Open Wrestling Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, the annual national championships on the Senior level, held April 23-24. Campbell won the U.S. Open for the second straight year.
She won four straight matches to claim the title. She opened with a technical fall over Nena Garcia. In the quarterfinals, she pinned Cianah Hee. In the semifinals, she needed three periods to defeat 2007 U.S. Open champion Leigh Jaynes. Her gold-medal victory was over 2008 U.S. Open runner-up Othella Lucas.
