BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Three athletes from the U.S. Marine Corps claimed individual Greco-Roman titles at the Northeast Senior Regionals on Sunday. The U.S. Marine Corps champions were Mike Pena (Jacksonville, N.C./U.S. Marine Corps) at 55 kg/121 lbs., Daniel Sotonieves (Jacksonville, N.C./U.S. Marine Corps) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and Shaun Durfey (Camp Lejuene, N.C./U.S. Marine Corps) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. The champions at the Northeast Senior Regionals earn a spot in the World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa, June 11-12. Pena defeated Tyler Erdman (Herndon, Pa./Modern Day Gladiators) in a close three-period battle which ended 0-1, 1-0, 3-0. Daniel Sotonieves edged a U.S. Marine Corps teammate Joel Ahern (Camp Lejuene, N.C. (U.S. Marine Corps) 1-0, 1-0. Durfey received an injury default in the finals from U.S. Marines Corps teammate Charles Fish. The Outstanding Wrestler was the 74 kg/163 lbs. champion, Anton Gottfredson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids), who defeated Jordan Dewald (Camp Lejuene, N.C./U.S. Marine Corps), 2-0, 1-0 in the finals. Gottfredson is a U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete. Earning a double title by winning both the freestyle and Greco-Roman competition at the Northeast Regionals this weekend was Alex Dolly (Haslett, Mich./Michigan WC) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Dolly defeated Joseph Sheffield, Greensboro, N.C. (Y.E.S.), in the Greco-Roman finals, 1-0, 1-1. Dolly was a freestyle champion on Saturday. Other individual champions were Leigh Tobias (Binghamton, N.Y./Shamrock WC) at 60 kg/132 lbs. and Peter Hicks (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) at 84 kg/185 lbs.
