Tar Heels add nine student athletes to roster. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina wrestling coach Bill Lam has announced a nine-person recruiting class for the upcoming season. The group includes four wrestlers from North Carolina as well as three transfers. The list also includes a three-time national champion and seven wrestlers who were their state champions. "We're excited about the talent level of the group we have coming in," Lam said."It's a great mix of transfers and new student athletes who we feel can contribute immediately." "This group, along with some returning wrestlers, should help put Carolina wrestling back here it belongs, at the top of the Atlantic Coast Conference and competing nationally." Among the signees are transfers Chris Rodrigues (125 pounds) from the University of Michigan, Dusty Heist (165/174 pounds) from Indiana University, and Jimmy O'Connor (157/165 pounds) from James Madison University. Also announced were North Carolinians Brandon Nibert (133 pounds), John Hill (149 pounds), Ralph Hunter (141 pounds) and Taylor McCay (157 pounds). Rounding out the group are Evan Sola (133 pounds)and Bobby Dysart (157/165 pounds). Rodrigues, from Marietta, Ga., was a three-time prep high school national champion as well as a four-time Georgia state champion. Rodrigues was also the only high school wrestler to qualify for the 2000 Olympic Trials. Sola, a native of Wernerville, Pa., was a two-time Pennsylvania state champion and is third in all-time career victories in the state of Pennsylvania. Heist, from Meadville, Pa., was also a Pennsylvania state champion. Nibert, from Hendersonville, N.C., Hunter, from Wilmington, N.C., and Hill, from Fayetteville, N.C., were each North Carolina state champions with Nibert completing his senior season undefeated. McCay, a native of Hillsborough, N.C., was also a North Carolina state finalist last year. O'Connor, from Woodbine, Md., was a former Maryland state champion, while Dysart is from Dublin, Ohio, and was an Ohio state finalist.
