Russia, Azerbaijan dominate European Championships in freestyle

BAKU, Azerbaijan â€" Russia and Azerbaijan, the top two freestyle teams at the 2009 World Championships, dominated the 2010 European Championships in men’s freestyle this week.
Russia won the team title with 61 points, led by four individual champions: Opan Sat at 60 kg/132 lbs., Denis Tsargush at 74 kg/163 lbs., Anzor Urishev at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Bilyal Makhov at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.
Makhov is a two-time World champion (2007, 2009). Tsargush was a 2009 World champion.
Host Azerbaijan was second with 50 points, winning the other three individual titles: Makhmud Magomedov at 55 kg/121 lbs., Jabrayil Hasanov at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and Khetag Gazyumov at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
Gazyumov was a 2009 World silver medalist and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist.
Russia and Azerbaijan also finished 1-2 at last year’s World Championships held in Herning, Denmark.
The freestyle competition was held on Tuesday and Wednesday. The tournament continues with the women's freestyle tournament on Thursday and Friday. The Greco-Roman event will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
