Men’s freestyle wrestling star Tervel Dlagnev (Columbus, Ohio/Sunkist Kids) and the 2010 U.S. Women’s Freestyle World Cup team won the U.S. Olympic Committee(USOC) Twitter voting for its major March awards.
Dlagnev overwhelmingly received the most votes for USOC Male Athlete of the Month for March.
Dlagnev received 86% of the vote, garnering 314 of the 366 votes cast. In distant second place was figure skater Jeremy Abbott with eight votes, or 2% of the ballots cast.
Dlagnev excelled in two major international events in March, going 4-0 at the Freestyle World Cup, then winning a gold medal at the Medved International in Belarus.
The 2010 U.S. Women’s World Cup team won a competitive race as the USOC Team of the Month for March.
The team received 197 of the 440 votes cast, to receive 45% of the vote. Placing second was the U.S Paralympic Sled Hockey Team, which received 158 votes, which was 36% of the total voting.
The U.S. Women’s World Cup Team placed second at the Women’s World Cup held in Nanjing City, China in March. Team USA defeated Mongolia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan in its pool competition, then lost a competitive match to host China in the finals. The U.S. entered the meet seeded sixth, and achieved its feat in spite of moving two athletes up a weight after one of the starters was injured. The U.S. Women’s World Cup team is listed below:

In the voting for USOC Female Athlete of the Month, Tatiana Padilla (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) placed second in the Twitter vote behind track and field star Lolo Jones.
Jones won the Twitter vote with 417 of the 1,171 votes cast, accounting for 36% of the voting. Padilla placed second with 378 votes, which placed her with 32% of the balloting.
Padilla won a gold medal at the Klippan Lady Open in Sweden, then had a strong 3-1 record at the Women’s World Cup in China during the month of March.
The USOC Twitter fan vote will account for 10% of the total for the USOC monthly awards, which also includes votes from the Olympic family and journalists. The final awards selection will be announced within a few days.
