STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State head wrestling coach John Smith announced today that he had received seven signatures on letters of intent during the 2001 spring signing period.    I'm really excited about this group of kids that will be joining our team next year," said head coach John Smith. "All of them seem very eager and motivated to get started. These late signees definitely add quality depth to our fall signees Jake Rosholt and Rusty Blackmon."    Steve Esparza headlines a group that will join the Pokes fall signees. Rosholt, the nation's top 189-pounder, will likely wrestle at 184 pounds, while highly regarded Rusty Blackmon projects as a 197-pounder.    Esparza, who captured his first California state championship back in March, wrestled for John Azevedo at Calvary Chapel High School. He will wrestle at 133 or 141 pounds at OSU.    Esparza also won the High School National Championships with a 4-3 decision over Mike Welch of Middletown, Del. Esparza and Rosholt both captured national titles in 2001. Rosholt, a senior from Sandpoint, Idaho, dominated Philip Hard of Bethlehem, Pa., 7-1.    OSU inked its second Tennessee native as Kevin Ward joins the Pokes for the 2001-02 season as a 149-pounder. Ward, a three-time state champion from Soddy-Daisy High School, posted a career record of 183-8. He also placed fourth at the high school nationals this spring.    Josh Hall, who projects at 197 or heavyweight in the Cowboy lineup, comes to the Pokes from the U.S. Army, after wrestling for the U.S. National Greco-Roman Team since his graduation form high school in 1995. Hall has been training at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., under Olympic head coach Steve Frazier.    OSU also added a transfer to the list in North Carolina's John Mark Bentley. He was a four-time high school state champion in North Carolina and then wrestled three years for UNC1s Bill Lam, winning three ACC Championships. Bentley will have one year of eligibility left with the Cowboys.    OSU also signed two Oklahoma wrestlers in Broken Arrow's Eric Hopkins and Comanche's Derek Meyers. Both athletes placed at the state tournament this spring.     OSU also gains the services of Norman's Derek Stevens. Stevens signed with the Pokes a year ago, but spent last year at wrestling at the Air Force Prep School in Colorado Springs, Colo. Stevens will have all four years of eligibility remaining.
