Spartanburg, S.C. â€" The Southern Conference announced on Tuesday that freshman Turtogtokh Luvsandorj has been named Wrestler of the Month for February.
Luvsandorj continued his hot streak into February as won 10 straight dual meets and is 13-1 overall since Jan. 9. In February, he went 7-1 with four pins. He defeated nationally-ranked Thomas Scotton (No. 16) of North Carolina to cap off the regular season for the Bulldogs. His only loss was a narrow defeat to No. 8 Bryce Saddoris of Navy, 4-1, at the All-Academy Championships in Annapolis, Md. The true freshman finished the month second on the team in wins with 24.
In March, the 157-pounder won the SoCon title as the No. 3 seed in the tournament and earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. He became the second straight true freshman to earn an NCAA bid after Odie Delaney won the bid at 197 pounds in 2009.
Luvsandorj and Delaney, who claimed the automatic bid at the heavyweight division this season, will both compete this week at the NCAA Championships in Omaha, Neb. Action starts on Thursday and continues through Saturday at the Qwest Center and updates on both Bulldog wrestlers will be available at the conclusion of action each day.
