SZOMBETHELY, Hungary - It was a difficult day for the U.S. Greco-Roman team, which lost all seven of its bouts contested on Sunday, the final day of the Hungarian Golden Grand Prix.

The U.S. had six athletes in three weight class, and all were defeated in their opening bout.

One U.S. wrestler, Kerry Regner (Darlington, Pa./Sunkist Kids) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., was pulled back into the repechage when the athlete he lost to qualified for the finals. Regner lost his repechage match to end the tournament with an 0-2 record.

The U.S. did not win a medal during the two day event. Only two athletes placed in the top 10 of their weight classes, both who competed on Saturday. Earning 10th place in their weight classes were Andy Bisek (Chaska, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Brandon Rupp (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.

Assistant National Greco-Roman Coach Momir Petkovic reviewed the U.S. performance after the tournament.

"This is certainly not the best of my coaching experiences in Europe. But, I did see some bright spots. Andy Bisek wrestled pretty well. A couple of our young guys, Paul Tellgren and Anton Gottfredson give me hope. Our experienced guys were a little disappointing. I expected more from guys like Chas Betts and Spencer Mango," said Petkovic.

Petkovic is looking at challenges and opportunities ahead for these athletes.

"As a team we are very, very young. But the Olympic Games are just around the corner. We´re going to have to find a way to make up that experience in a big hurry. That´s what we do. As a young program, it´s hard for these young guys to find guys to look up to. Before, we always has guys like Kevin Bracken, Brad Vering or Rulon Gardner in the room to show the way. Now, we´re going to have to be each other´s heroes and find our way together," he said.
