Four U.S. women qualify for Klippan Lady Open gold-medal finals in Sweden

KLIPPAN, Sweden - Four U.S. women wrestlers have qualified for the gold-medal finals at the Klippan Lady Open with unbeaten records on Saturday.

Two of the U.S. finalists were members of the 2009 U.S. Women's World Team: Tatiana Padillia (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs,, Colo. (New York AC) at 67 kg/147.5 lbs.

Another U.S. finalist was a 2008 U.S. World Team member, Stephany Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 72 kg/158.5 lbs. The fourth U.S. finalist, C.C. Weber (Goodrich, Mich./Sunkist Kids) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., was a Junior World Team member last year.

Padilla, a 2008 World bronze medalist, went 3-0 on Saturday, including a pin over Renata Omilusik of Poland in the semifinals. She will face Chiho Hamada of Japan in the finals on Sunday in the finals

Gray, who was fifth in the World last year, also went 3-0, with two pins, including a fall in the semifinals over Sandra Makela of Sweden. She will face Ase Karlesson of Sweden on Sunday for the gold-medal. 

Lee, a two-time University World champion, beat two veteran stars to reach the finals, pinning both Marina Gastl of Austria and Jenny Fransson of Sweden. Lee will wrestle Emma Weberg of Sweden in the gold-medal finals.

Weber was 3-0 on Saturday, including a close 1-0, 3-0 win over Margorzata Swierk of Poland in the semifinals. She will battle Iwona Matkowska of Poland in the title match on Sunday.

Qualifying for a bronze-medal match, after dropping her semifinal match at 55 kg/121 lbs. was Trinity Plessinger (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids). Her opponent in the bronze-medal match will be determined during the repechage rounds Sunday morning.

Four other U.S. wrestlers lost to a gold-medal finalist, and have been drawn back into the repechage rounds. They still have an opportunity to wrestle back for third place. They include Amantha Hordogoda (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., 
Helen Maroulis (Rockville, Md./New York AC) at 55 kg/121 lbs., Kelsey Campbell (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 59 kg/130 lbs. and Leigh Jaynes (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 59 kg/130 lbs.

The U.S. entered 15 athletes in the tournament. The rest of the U.S. team has been eliminated from competition.

The FILA Cadet division of the Klippan Lady Open completed on Saturday. Two U.S. wrestlers entered the day unbeaten. At 56 kg/123 lbs., Roni Goodale of Muscatine, Iowa, went 1-2 on the day and finished fourth. Also at 56 kg/123 lbs., Aleah LaFrancis of Vista, Calif., went 0-2 and missed out on the medal rounds.
