Notre Dame (Ohio) Extends Lead After Session II
McKendree (Ill.) moved into second place with 75.5 points
OKLAHOMA CITY - Notre Dame (Ohio) tallied 107.0 points and extended its Day 1 lead to 31.5 points after having eight wrestlers advance in the championship bracket at the 53rd Annual NAIA Wrestling National Championships on Friday at Abe Lemons Arena on the campus of Oklahoma City University. McKendree (Ill.) advanced five wrestlers in the championship bracket to earn 75.5 points and take second place. Great Falls (Mont.) and Southern Oregon sit in a tie for third place with 69.0 points each, while Dickinson State (N.D.) rounds out the top five teams with 60.0 points.
Notre Dame has the most total remaining wrestlers with 11, eight in the championship bracket and three in the consolation bracket. Southern Oregon, Dickinson State and Missouri Valley are the only other schools with double-figure wrestlers remaining (10).
Defending national champion Lindenwood (Mo.) dropped to 10th place overall. The Lions have one wrestler in the championship bracket and five trying to work their way through the consolation bracket.
The third session gets underway at 6 p.m. today and will feature championship semifinal matches and two rounds of consolation wrestling.
