Turkey defeats Uzbekistan, 18-14 at the 2001 World Cup

Turkey and Uzbekistan split bouts and won four each, but Turkey came out with the win 18-14. The teams traded wins back and forth in the beginning, first with Adkham Achilov of Uzbekistan winning by a technical fall over Vedaat Oztemur, 12-1 at 119 pounds. Turkey then won at 127.75 pounds when Arif Kama decisioned Dilshod Mansurov, 5-4. Damir Zakhartdinov of Uzbekistan scored a 9-1 decision at 138.75 pounds over Omer Cubukci, then Turkey came back with a 7-0 decision at 152 pounds when Ahmet Gulhan defeated Tulkin Buronov. Gokhan Yavaser of Turkey pinned Khurshid Khaldarov at 1:13 at 167.5 pounds only to have Uzbekistan come back with a 3-2 overtime decision when Aslan Sanakoev defeated Nuri Zengin at 187.25 pounds. Rasul Katinovossov tied it up at 14-14 when he decisioned Vedat Ergin, 6-3. Aydin Polatci clinched the win the Turkey when he scored a technical fall over Ruslan Utegenov, 10-0.
