Russia defeats Uzbekistan 22-11 in the second round of the World Cup

Winning six of the eight bouts, Russia defeated Uzbekistan 22-1 in the second round of the 2001 World Cup. Uzbekistan scored first with a win at 119 pounds when Adkham Achilov decisioned Alexandre Kontoev, 5-3. Russia then came back and won the 127.75-pound match when Murat Ramazanov won a close 5-4 decision. At 138.75 pounds, Damir Zakhartdinov of Uzbekistan scored a 3-1 decision over Miron Dzadzaev. Russia then won the next five bouts to claim the team victory. At 152 pounds, Iskhak Boziev decisioned Tulkin Buronov 11-3, and Ruslan Kokaev of Russia won by a technical fall over Khurshid Khaldarov, 13-1, at 167.5 pounds. At 187.25 pounds, Khadjimourat Gatsalov won a close overtime decision, 3-2 over Aslan Sanakoev. Taimouraz Tiguiev decisioned Rasul Katinovossov, 7-2, at 213.75 pounds and Nikolai Telegin finished it off with a technical fall over Ruslan Utegenov, 11-0.
