Russia defeats Turkey, 19-10, in first round of the World Cup

Winning six of the eight bouts, Russia defeated Turkey, 19-10, to open their first match of their World Cup of Freestyle Wrestling. Russia won the first three bouts. First at 119 pounds when Alexandre Kontoev decisioned Vedat Oztemur, 9-1. At 127.75 pounds, 2000 Olympian Murat Ramazanov scored a 3-2 overtime decision over Arif Kama. Miron Dzadzaev, who placed sixth in the 1999 World Championships, scored a 5-4 decision at 138.75 pounds over Omer Cubikci. Turkey got three team points at 152 pounds when Ahmet Gulhan won a close 2-0, overtime decision over Ishak Boziev. Russia came back with three victories. First at 167.5 pounds when Inal Dzagourov scored a 2-0, overtime decision over Gokhan Yavaser. At 187.25 pounds, 1996 Olympic champion Khadjimourat Magomedov of Russia scored a 3-0 overtime decision over Nuri Zengin. Taimouraz Tiguiev decisioned Vedat Ergin, 10-9 at 213.75 pounds. The last bout brought a win for Turkey at 286 pounds. 2000 Olympian Aydin Polatci decisioned Nikikolai Telegin, 6-3. Russia has a 1-0 record, and Turkey has a 0-1 record.
