Larry Slater photo Now in its 12th year, the 2010 Dave Schultz Memorial International Championships will be hosted at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., Feb. 4-6. The tournament traditionally showcases many of the greatest Olympic-caliber wrestlers in the world. As many as 20 past World or Olympic champions and medalists are in the preliminary entry lists this year, including international stars in all three Olympic styles of wrestling - men's freestyle, women's freestyle and Greco-Roman. 2008 Olympic champion Carol Huynh of Canada is expected to compete at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. in the women's freestyle division. World champions in the tentative field include Greco-Roman wrestlers Joe Warren of the United States at 60 kg/132 lbs., Dilshod Aripov of Uzbekistan at 60 kg/132 lbs., Yavor Yanakiev of Bulgaria at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Dremiel Byers of the United States at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. The women's freestyle field will include past World champion Iris Smith of the United States at 72 kg/158.5 lbs. In women's freestyle, two-time Junior World champion Ali Bernard of the United States will compete at 72 kg and 2008 Junior World champion Adeline Gray of the United States will compete at 67 kg. In Greco-Roman, two-time Junior World champion Aleksandar Kostadinov of Bulgaria will wrestle at 55 kg and 2009 Junior World champion Azizibek Murodov of Uzbekistan will enter at 74 kg. In men's freestyle, 2009 Junior World champion Koloy Kortoev of Russia is listed at 84 kg. In addition, a number of past winners of the Dave Schultz Memorial International are in the preliminary athlete rosters. Byers has won the tournament four times in the past, the most of any Greco-Roman wrestler. Two-time Dave Schultz Memorial International winners in the preliminary field include Huynh, Aripov, Ruiz and Smith, as well as Greco-Roman wrestler Faruk Sahin of the United States at 66 kg. The tournament could features athletes from 22 countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Columbia, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Espana, Germany, Greece, India, Japan, Korea, Moldova, Nigeria, Norway, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, United States, and Uzbekistan. Other nations are possible participants. The event is sponsored by the "Experience Colorado Springs" Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation. TheMat.com will provide live webcast coverage of the championship finals of the event all three days. Adult all-season pass for the three-day tournament are $15. An adult one day ticket is $10 per day and adult session tickets are $5 for Session I through Preliminaries and $8 for Session II through the Finals. Tickets for high school students (with I.D.) and senior citizens (62 and over) are $5 per day. Youth (5-14) tickets are $4 per day. Coaches are admitted free with five paid wrestlers.
