CEDAR FALLS -- Amateur Wrestling News has honored University of Northern Iowa head wrestling coach Brad Penrith  as its 2001 Rookie Coach of the Year.    Penrith finished his first season as UNI's head wrestling coach with a record of 11-8 and an 18th place finish at this year's NCAA National Championships.  The Panthers qualified eight men to the Championships, scoring points from every wrestler except one.     Sophomore heavyweight Paul Hynek led the Panthers with a record of 26-6 and a sixth place finish at nationals.  Lightweights Dylan Long, 133 and Mark Rial, 141, both won three matches while junior Kyle Hansen finished in eighth place.  Hynek and Hansen were honored as all-Americans for the finishes at nationals.    "This is such an honor because you only have one shot at getting this award,* commented Penrith. "This is not just a reflection on me but the program.  It is not a one person show and I credit a lot of my success to my three assistants and the ton of support I get from them and the community.  That makes it so much easier to accomplish our goals."    Penrith took over as head coach last summer after serving as an assistant coach at UNI for three season.  During that time, he was instrumental in securing recruiting classes that were ranked first in the nation last year, 13th two years ago and second three years ago.    Prior to coming to UNI, he spent five years as an assistant at Nebraska, one year at Boise state, two seasons at Arizona State and was a graduate assistant at Iowa.
