IOWA CITY, Iowa - Nobody was more eager to step on the mat Saturday night than Iowa sophomore Montell Marion.

Caught and pinned in his last match against Minnesota, Marion received his chance for redemption and delivered the biggest win of the dual.

Marion piled up more than three minutes of riding time in earning a convincing 4-0 win over No. 5 Jamal Parks. Marion's win at 141 pounds boosted No. 1 Iowa to a 19-16 win over No. 4 Oklahoma State before 10,967 fans Saturday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

"Montell wrestled very well against a wrestler who has shown he can wrestle with the best in the country," Iowa coach Tom Brands said. "Montell shut him down, but he was also firing. Montell was firing on all cylinders and hitting big-time shots.

"When he wrestles solid and focused and free, and not trying to take on the whole world, he's doggone tough. I love him when he wrestles like that."

Iowa boosted its school-record dual winning streak to 52. The Hawkeyes (14-0 this season) also stopped OSU's streak of four straight dual wins in Iowa City.

"I think two years ago when Oklahoma State came to town, we made a mistake not getting ready for them," Brands said. "I think we did a better job getting ready for them, but we left a lot of points on the mat. When you leave a lot of team points on the mat, you move a lot of team points from your column to theirs. That's what happened.

"I'm not going to admit it, but I feel a little bit drained because it was big for us. It was a big statement for our program. I feel like our guys - as a team, as a whole - rose to the occasion. I give them credit for last weekend (at National Duals), and we've got to get better going into this next phase of the season."

Following a scoreless first period, Marion escaped and then drove in to score a takedown with 1:21 left in the second. Parks was unable to get off the mat after that. Marion rode him out in the second period and kept him on the mat in the entire third period.

"That was just kind of how the match ended up," Marion said. "I was hammering him on top pretty good and he was putting his head on the mat. I figured I would try to work him over and try to get some back points."

NCAA champion and top-ranked Brent Metcalf of Iowa put on a show for the fans in a 21-5 dismantling of Quentin Fuentes at 149 pounds. Metcalf finished off the technical fall early in the final period.

Hawkeye freshman Matt McDonough used his superior size and conditioning to wear down Chris Notte in a 13-4 major decision to start the dual at 125. The fourth-ranked McDonough is 20-0 this season.

Top-ranked senior Jay Borschel of Iowa dominated No. 7 Mike Benefiel by a 9-1 major decision at 174.

The two bonus points Metcalf scored and the one each from McDonough and Borschel were pivotal in the meet's outcome. Each team won five matches. OSU's Neil Erisman won by major decision at 157.

Oklahoma State, the winningest program in NCAA history with 34 national titles, fell to 8-1-1.

"The biggest difference was our top guns, where we thought could get bonus points, didn't get them," OSU coach John Smith said. "You aren't going to win on the road giving up bonus points and not getting enough of your own."

OSU freshman Alex Meade looked very impressive in earning a 5-3 win over No. 3 Ryan Morningstar of Iowa at 165. Meade scored takedowns in the first and third periods. Meade countered a shot attempt for a late takedown to prevail.

That cut Iowa's lead in the team score to 12-10.

Borschel then followed by amassing a whopping 4 minutes, 37 seconds of riding time in the win over Benefiel.

"He's smooth out there," Brands said of Borschel. "And when he's smooth he's dynamite."

Iowa's Phil Keddy won an early scramble to earn the match's only takedown in a 3-2 win over Clayton Foster at 184.

Oklahoma State cut Iowa's lead to 19-13 after Alan Gelogaev held off Luke Lofthouse 3-2 at 197. Gelogaev, a native of Russia who is considerably taller than Lofthouse, scored a first-period takedown and then held off Lofthouse's shot attempts in the final period.

Top-ranked Jared Rosholt beat Iowa backup Blake Rasing 7-5 at heavyweight to bring the final score to 19-16 Iowa. Rosholt needed a pin to tie the dual, but had to hold off a determined comeback bid by Rasing to prevail.

Oklahoma State freshman Jordan Oliver spun behind Iowa senior Daniel Dennis in the closing seconds to pull out a 3-2 win at 133. The fourth-ranked Dennis led 2-1 with five seconds left when the wrestlers returned to the center of the mat for a restart. But the No. 6 Oliver managed to slip behind Dennis for a takedown with one second left to prevail.

Oliver was a 2009 Junior World bronze medalist. Dennis, who just returned from an ankle injury, was an NCAA All-American in 2009.

Erisman shot in on a pair of early leg attacks to take command en route to a 16-7 win over Iowa's Aaron Janssen at 157.

The Iowa-Oklahoma State meet will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network on Sunday night at 10 o'clock Eastern Time.
