High School Brackets released for 2010 Virginia Duals

The 30th annual Virginia Duals released its High School Division brackets on Friday with 16 teams competing in each of the National, American and Black & Blue Divisions starting on Friday, January 8 at the Hampton Coliseum.

In the National Division, last year's runner-up St. Mark's (Del.) took the top-seed while Virginia Beach power Cox earned the second seed in the event. Rounding out the top four seeds are the 2009 third-place team in the National Division - Eastern Regional (N.J.) and the two-time defending National Division Champions are the fourth-seed in 2009 Virginia Group AA state champion Christiansburg (Va.). An intriguing first round match will pit Christiansburg against the 2009 American Division champions in Canon-McMillan (Pa.) at 9 am on Friday.

The American Division will be topped by the 2008 champions in longtime Virginia Group AA power Grundy High School. Richmond area private school powerhouse St. Christopher's earned the second-seed after making the semifinals in its first appearance last year. A first-year participant in Haddonfield, N.J. takes the third-seed, while another Virginia Beach power in Kempsville High School is the fourth-seed. An intriguing first-round matchup will pit the sixth-seeded Poquoson Islanders against the 2009 Black & Blue Division champion Grassfield Grizzlies at 7 pm on Friday.

The Black & Blue Division, normally a division of all schools from the state of Virginia, will be topped by a pair of schools making their second-ever appearance in the event - Skyline and Brooke Point. Virginia Beach based Ocean Lakes is the third-seed, while Brookville takes the fourth- seed.

Tickets for the event are on sale at the Hampton Coliseum ticket office. Prices range from $10 for a student one-session ticket, $14 for an adult one-session to $22 for a student all-session pass and $32 for an adult. Wrestling starts Friday, January 8 at 9 am and on Saturday, January 9 at 8 am. More information can be found at www.virginiaduals.org.
