TheMat.com, the official web page of the Amateur Wrestling Alliance, has created a Title IX page. The page became live on Friday, April 27, and can be located as a link from the home page on the left-hand side.    Most of the sections of the page have already been opened, and new information will be added on a daily basis. The page is designed to cover the news concerning the Title IX issue and its relationship to wrestling, as well as provide information and resources on the topic.    Among the sections on TheMat.com Title IX page are:  Breaking News, Title IX Community, The Law and Interpretations, College Wrestling, Program Protection, Columns and Other Articles, Resources, and Get Involved.    The Title IX Community Section is expected to be an active area on a daily basis. It includes a Title IX Bulletin Board, where those interested in the topic can post information and ideas and debate issues. Also posted is a Links section, where numerous links to other Title IX-related pages are posted. An exciting part of this section is the Newsstand, where articles about Title IX from newspapers and web pages across the country will be posted on a regular basis.    The College Wrestling Section will provide information and statistics on college wrestling participation and opportunities. A Drop/Add Tote Board has been developed, to provide information on college wrestling teams recently created, eliminated or in danger. Lists of college wrestling programs, both past and present, will provide additional support materials.    The Columns and Other Articles Section will provide perspective and key coverage of the topic.  TheMat.com Columns page will link directly to all of the columns and features on Title IX that have been posted on TheMat.com since its inception. The Other Columns and Articles page will include key columns and stories that TheMat.com has been given permission to post for reference purposes.    The Resources Section provides background information and materials on Title IX. The Brochures and Materials page will provide links to educational materials that have been prepared specifically on the topic. The Timetable page gives a year-by-year account of key Title IX news items, as prepared by USA Wrestling staff. The Joint Task Force Media Notes page provides all of the media releases written by a working Title IX public relations committee from 1997-1999.    A section under construction is entitled Program Protection. Articles with information and tips for college programs on ways to strengthen wrestling on each campus are being solicited and will be posted when received. The goal is to accumulate a complete set of materials that can be formed into a working tool for all college coaches, athletes, alumni and fans to build America's college wrestling programs. All wrestling leaders are encouraged to contribute articles for this important section.    "TheMat.com seeks to be a leader in providing information and resources on the Title IX issue," said Gary Abbott, Director of Special Projects for USA Wrestling. "This is a complicated and emotional issue, which has had a serious and direct impact on college wrestling. By providing an educational and communications tool for the wrestling community on-line, the goal is to get more people involved in working for solutions and strategies for wrestling's benefit."    The wrestling community is asked to help provide information for many sections of the web page. Anybody who has a Title IX-related web page is encouraged to send in the URL address and it may be posted as a link. In addition, TheMat.com is always seeking new quality  articles and resources to add to the sections. TheMat.com has become one of the most respected and active sports web sites on the internet, although it has been in existence for less than one year.
