Norman, Okla.  -- Ten bouts proved to be not enough to decide the first installment of Bedlam wrestling, as No. 12 Oklahoma and No. 3 Oklahoma State ended the evening deadlocked at 16 in Norman.

Oklahoma, trailing 16-13 heading into the evening's final bout, eliminated the gap with a 6-3 decision by No. 5 Kyle Terry over Quinten Fuentes at 149 pounds.

With both teams recording the same number of dual wins and overall bonus points, the match ended in a tie.

"I feel about as good as I can with a tie," head coach Jack Spates said.  "Our guys came to wrestle.  Bedlam is all about fighting, scratching and clawing."

The evening began at 157 pounds and Oklahoma quickly took a 3-0 team lead after No. 8 Shane Vernon recorded a mild 3-1 upset over OSU's seventh-ranked Neil Erisman.

Alex Meade, ranked No. 12, then tied the match with a 5-1 decision over Sooner true-freshman and 16th-ranked Tyler Caldwell at 165 pounds.

No. 8 Jeff James (9-0) quickly turned the match back into Oklahoma's favor, 6-3, by dominating Chris McNeil at 174 pounds. The junior recorded a 14-5 major decision, his fourth of the season.

The see-saw battle continued, as Oklahoma State's 11th-ranked Clayton Foster squared the team score by posting a 17-5 major decision victory over 184-pound Sooner Erich Schmidtke.

Sooners claimed victory in arguably the most anticipated matchup of the night, as No. 7 Eric Lapotsky took down No. 4 Alan Gelogaev by a 10-4 final.  Lapotsky, who was awarded Big 12 Wrestler of the Month earlier in the day, remained undefeated (9-0) on the season and gave OU a 10-7 team lead.

Two overtime periods then were not enough to decide the heavyweight battle, as No. 13 Nathan Fernandez fell to No. 2 Jared Rosholt by a riding time in the fourth-tie breaking period, 3-3.

With the team score once again deadlocked at 10, Sooner freshman Jarrod Patterson, who was brought out of redshirt prior to the match, provided the biggest upset of the night, knocking down NO. 7 Chris Notte by a 6-3 final.  The match was all-square at two when the Marlow, Okla., product scored two takedowns in the final nine seconds to steal the win. 

"It was a joint decision to pull his redshirt," Spates said.  "It was encouraged and he was all for it.  He was dominated a few weeks ago by Notte, and it took a lot of courage to come out and face him in his first career dual start."

Leading 13-10, Oklahoma State posted back-to-back wins to stake its first lead, 16-13.  No. 7 Jordan Oliver defeated Alex Ekstrom by an 8-2 decision at 133 pounds and No. 5 Jamal Parks posted a 5-3 victory over No. 15 Zack Bailey at 141 pounds.

Oklahoma will return to action this weekend, Dec. 4-5, when it travels to Primm, Nev., to compete in the Cliff Keen Invitational.
