TheMat.com, the official web page of the Amateur Wrestling Alliance, has created a women's wrestling page. The page became live on Friday, April 20, and can be located as a link from the home page on the left-hand side. Most of the sections of the page have already been opened, and new information will be added on a daily basis. The page is designed to cover all levels of girls and women's wrestling in the United States. Among the sections on TheMat.com Women's Wrestling page are: Breaking News, Women's Wrestling Community, Features, Event Schedules, Basic Facts, USA Wrestling programs, Teams and Clubs and Start a Women's Team. The Women's Wrestling Community is expected to be an active area for the women's wrestling community. It includes a Women's Wrestling Bulletin Board, where those involved in women's wrestling can post information and ideas. Also posted is a Links section, where women wrestling programs and individuals can have their web page posted. An exciting part of this section is the Newsstand, where articles about women's wrestling from newspapers across the country will be posted on a regular basis. The Features Section will included a profile section, which provides the achievements and personal information about top women wrestlers of all age groups. An Advice from Champions feature is also being planned, where America's best women's wrestlers can offer advice to young athletes. The Event Schedule section provides a complete USA Wrestling national event schedule for women. In addition, any tournament director that hosts a girls or women's wrestling tournament can have their event posted in a section for all women's wrestling events. "TheMat.com is working to become the ultimate source for information and features on women's wrestling," said Gary Abbott, Director of Special Projects for USA Wrestling. "Women's wrestling is growing on all levels in the United States, and we are excited to provide quality coverage of the sport. We hope to have this web page become an active resource that will allow women's wrestling to grow even more quickly." The wrestling community is asked to help provide information for many sections of the web page. Anybody who has a women's wrestling page is encouraged to send in the URL address and it will be posted. In addition, TheMat.com is creating a list of all-girls high school and club teams, to educate the community about opportunities for young women wrestlers. Please send your information to Gary Abbott at gabbott@usawrestling.org, or via FAX at 719-598-9440. All suggestions on new features for the web page are encouraged. The Amateur Wrestling Alliance includes USA Wrestling, the National Wrestling Coaches Association and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum. TheMat.com has become one of the most respected and active sports web sites on the internet, although it has been in existence for less than one year. Visit TheMat.com today, and become involved in the world of women's wrestling.
