Three-time Minnesota state champion Destin McCauley was the Western Junior Regional freestyle champion at 145 pounds. Even though he took the title at the tournament he was just happy to be out here. 

"It has been great seeing all of the Veterans and Seniors and getting to warm up with them or around them," McCauley said. "I look up to a lot of them so it was really cool to see all of them." 

One of the Senior wrestlers McCauley looks up to is 2008 Olympian Jake Deitchler. 

"I got to talk to Deitchler and that was exciting," he said. "He made the Olympic team when he was 18 years old and that is what I plan on doing." 

Destin brought down Jordan Thomas of Michigan 1-0, 5-0 to take first place.

After defeating Joseph DuCharme of Colorado 8-1, 4-1, double champion Brock Gutches of Oregon was named Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament. Gutches was also a Greco-Roman champion on Wednesday.

In the Greco-Roman tournament, Joe Brewster of Illinois defeated Luke Vaith of Minnesota but Vaith stopped Brewster from becoming a double champion as he defeated Brewster by a technical fall 6-0, 6-0 in the 140 pound freestyle final. 

Double champions, winning both freestyle and Greco-Roman titles this week, were Josh Martinez of Colorado at 105 pounds, Kade Moss of Utah at 130 pounds, Brock Gutches of Oregon at 160 pounds, Morgan Mcintosh of California at 189 pounds, and Jacob Mitchell of Oregon at 285 pounds. 

There were no repeat freestyle champions from 2008 at the tournament.
