World Championships Local Marketing Committee Announced New York, NY (April 5, 2001) - The World Championships of Wrestling announced today the names of the individuals on the local marketing committee assisting with the sales and promotions for the September 26-29 event to be held at Madison Square Garden. Al Bevilacqua (Pt. Jervis, N.Y.), Bill Crum (West Orange, N.J.), Jerry Seckler (Massapequa, N.Y.), Jack Galloway (Boalsburg, Pa.), Gary Whipple (New Fairfield, Conn.), John Welch (Liberty Corner, N.J.), Steve Erber (Allentown, Pa.), Stan Zeemer (Manheim, Pa.), Carl Bennett (New City, N.Y.) and Steve Powell (Nazareth, Pa.) have combined over 350 years of experience together in the wrestling community. They will be working directly with USA Wrestling and NYC2012 to promote the World Championships. The committee includes ten of the most seasoned coaches and wrestling experts in the four states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. The highest priority for the World Championships is to sell tickets in that four state region. Al Bevilacqua, MWA (Metropolitan Wrestling Association) Chairman of the Board, Bill Crum, Executive Director of the MWA and Competition Manager for the World Championships, and Jerry Seckler, Friends of Long Island Wrestling Chairman, spearheaded putting this illustrious list of wrestling coaches and supporters together. "This is the opportunity we've been waiting for," said Al Bevilacqua, Chairman of the Board of the MWA. "The World Championships will give the wrestling community of this area the chance to step up and show the world how much the Northeastern U.S. supports wrestling." The goal of the committee is to make the 2001 World Championships of Wrestling the largest attended wrestling event in history. The committee will focus specifically on grassroots promotions and ticket sales in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut. "I'm thrilled to have such a distinguished group of experts in the local wrestling community to lead our marketing efforts for the World Championships," said Dan Doctoroff, President, NYC2012. "This exceptional list of coaches and leaders in the wrestling community will definitely help take this event to the next level." The committee's first incentive for ticket buyers is a free World Championships T-Shirt with every purchase of an all-session pass during the month of April.
