USAW announces 2009 World Team Trials qualifying standards

USA Wrestling has established the procedures to qualify for the 2009 World Team Trials in Men's and Women's Freestyle and Greco-Roman. 

The 2009 Wrestling World Team Trials, presented by the U.S. Marines, will be hosted in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the Mid-America Center May 30-31.

This event will feature Greco-Roman, Men's Freestyle, and Women's Freestyle athletes wrestling for the opportunity to represent the U.S. at the 2009 World Championships in Herning, Denmark, Sept. 21-27.

Listed are the following events and standards for qualifying for the 2009 World Team Trials:

Men's Freestyle & Greco-Roman
2009 World Team Trials Qualifying Tournaments:

-	Past World/Olympic Team Member
-	NYAC International Champion, Nov. 21-23, 2008
-	Dave Schultz Memorial Champion, Feb. 5-8, 2009
-	Northeast Regional Champion, April 3-5, 2009
-	Top 7 at U.S. National Championship, April 8-11, 2009
-	Finalist at University National Championship, April 23-26, 2009 
-	Northern Plains Regional Champion, May 15-17, 2009
-	Medalist at International Tour * in Europe, Asia, or Cuba
         *Approved by National Coach
-	Champion in any FILA Sanctioned Tournament approved by USA Wrestling National Coach - competition must be within one year of the World Team Trials - Senior Level.

Women's Freestyle
2009 World Team Trials Qualifying Tournaments:

-	Past World/Olympic Team Member
-	NYAC International Champion, Nov. 21-23, 2008
-	WCWA National Championship Finalist in the World Championship weights, Jan. 31, 2009
-	Dave Schultz Memorial Champion, Feb. 5-8, 2009
-	Top 7 at U.S. National Championship, April 8-11, 2009
-	Finalist at University National Championship, April 23-26, 2009
-	Northern Plains Regional Champion, May 15-17, 2009
-	Medalist at International Tour * in Europe or Asia
         *Approved by National Coach
