Defending champion Lindenwood leads after first session of NAIA Championships

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Day one of the 2009 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Wrestling National Championships is in the books.  The tournament began with the Parade of Champions which featured grapplers from 32 different schools.  After the festivities concluded, the competitors hit the mats.

Defending champion Lindenwood (Mo.) racked up 37 points to lead the pack after the first day of action.  Southern Oregon sits at No. 2 with 29 points, followed by Missouri Valley with 28 points, Dickinson State (N.D.) with 26.5 points and Campbellsville (Ky.) with 21 points rounding out the top five.

Lindenwood has eight wrestlers still alive in the championship bracket with four others in the consolation rounds. Southern Oregon has seven in the championship bracket. Teams with six in the championship bracket are Dickinson State, Campbellsville and McKendry.

The tournament will resume Friday with session two beginning at 10:00 a.m. and will continue with session three at 6:00 p.m.
