It has recently come to my attention that the wrestling program at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania is being threatened. Their quota numbers are not in line and apparently the Interim Head coach, Tim Wittman, has been told that there is a possibility that the wrestling program may be dropped. That decision has not been made as of yet. A meeting is planned at the end of April to decide the fate of this wrestling program. The time to act is now, before that possibility becomes reality. Please send a short e-mail to the following individuals at Bucknell. President of Bucknell - Steffen Rogers (570-577-1511) (stef@bucknell.edu) Athletic Director - John Hardt (jhardt@bucknell.edu) Associate Director of Athletics - Tim Pavlechco (former NCAA employee who was in charge of the NCAA Wrestling Championships) (tpavlech@bucknell.edu) Here are a couple of points you may want to make in your e-mail to them. 1) Help may be on its way - a new Assistant Secretary of Education in change of the OCR will be appointed soon and it is likely that this person will bring a much more reasonable approach to compliance with Title IX than the previous administration. 2) There are other ways to comply with Title IX other than just meeting the quota numbers. 3) The wrestling team at Bucknell helped support the establishment of the women's gold and water polo teams at Bucknell. It would be hypocritical to cut a men's team that helped establish opportunities for women. Thanks for your help, Eric LeSher President Iowans Against Quotas
