An appeal for action from leaders in the wrestling community: ACT NOW TO PROTECT WRESTLING AND OTHER IMPORTANT OLYMPIC SPORTS. Those who are worried about the future of wrestling and other Olympic sports are asked to get involved TODAY. Harsh U.S. Department of Education policy interpretations have created a strong incentive to eliminate men's Olympic sports opportunities. Since 1993, well over 350 NCAA men's sports teams have been eliminated, and thousands of sports opportunities have been lost with program drops and squad caps. Currently, a new U.S. Department of Education is being staffed. This is a critical time, and the help of every individual who is committed to protecting opportunities is asked to SEND AN EMAIL TODAY. Please address your personal email on this topic to Mr. Clayton Johnson, a key leader in the new administration. His email address is clayton_m._johnson@who.eop.gov (Please note that there is a dot after the m in his address.) Please feel free to include any personal stories that you can share in your own words. It is important that you should include some or all of the following points: 1. I am personally concerned about the misguided government policies that have led to the elimination of tens of thousands of male athletic sports opportunities. We are losing valuable chances to provide mentors and leadership for our young people. 2. I urge that the appointees in the Department of Education, including the new Director of the Office of Civil Rights, will include people who will hault this senseless destruction of educational and sports opportunity. 3. I believe that fair and equal opportunities for men and women can be achieved without the terrible elimination of men's sports teams that have occurred during the last eight years. Please make sure that these emails are polite and respectful. Please email this information to as many of your friends and acquaintances who share your concern for the future of sports opportunities for all. Everybody should get involved, mother and fathers, brothers and sisters, fans, coaches and competitors. This crucial appointment could be made as soon as tomorrow. PLEASE EMAIL YOUR MESSAGE TO MR. JOHNSON TODAY. Information on other people to influence, and other ways to make a difference will be circulated soon.
