USA Deaf Wrestling Association President Maurice Abenchuchan and National Director Rob Vialpando are proud to announce that the 2008 USA Deaflympic Trials for Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling will take place June 18-21, in Pocatello, Idaho.
Competition will feature seven weight classes in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling. The seven weight divisions are the same as those in USA Wrestling Senior-level men's competition.
The deadling to enter the competition has been extended to May 21, 2008. The cost of the entry fee is $70 and wrestlers must be 16 years of age or older to compete.
Champions from each weight division at the Deaflympic Trials will represent USA Deaf Wrestling at the 2008 World Deaf Wrestling Championships, held in Yerevan, Armenia, Sept. 22-28.
The winners will also travel as members of the USA Deaf Wrestling team to the Deaflympic Games in Taipei, Taiwan as part of the USA Deaf Sports Federation delegation. The 21st Deaflympic Games will be held Sept. 5-15 with nearly 10,000 deaf athletes from more than 100 countries taking part in the event.
The U.S. Deaflympic Trials for wrestling are sponsored by the Greater Pocatello Convention Bureau Visitors in conjunction with the 2008 USA Wrestling Western Regional. Both events will take place in Holt Arena on the campus of Idaho State University. These tournaments are sanctioned under USA Wrestling, the National Governing Body for wrestling in the U.S.
