The BTS/PSAL Wrestling Commissioner has announced that 13 new high schools have been accepted by the PSAL to begin wrestling programs for the 2008-2009 Wrestling Season. Several other high schools have been extended invitations to join the new class of high schools to become involved in the "world's oldest and greatest sport of WRESTLING".
The Partnership Agreement signed with the Fund For Education in 2006 provides grants for 15 new high school teams in the 2008-2009 season and 5 more teams to be added in 2009-2010.
These 15 new teams will begin competing in the PSAL Developmental League. All of these high schools have been selected and linked to the Middle School initiative of building "feeder" schools through the Beat the Streets Middle School Program.
Michael Cigala, Executive Director, announced last week at the BTS Board Meeting that 11 new middle school teams have been added to the 2008 Spring Program all of which are linked directly to existing high schools with wrestling programs. There are 9 more teams to be added for the next season.
2004- 23 High Schools
2008- 58 High Schools and 62 Middle School teams
Congratulations to the Commissioner, Larry Cantor on behalf of the wrestling community in New York City.
