On Mat 3, Jody Strittmatter (Iowa) pinned McCormick of Lock Haven in the first period of the first fall of the tournament.    Zach Roberson (ISU) of Jeremy Hart (App. State) are in to the second period on Mat 4. Roberson currently leads 2-1 at the end of the second period. Roberson wins the with a major decision, 13-5.    #5 seed Owen Elzen (MN) and Greg Enyon (Millersville) are up on Mat 5. Elzen scored the first takedown with 1:56 left in the first period. At the end of the first period, Elzen leads 5-0 with nearly 2 minutes of riding time. At the end of the second period, Elzen leads 8-0. Elzen win the match with a major decision 10-0 with more than 4 minutes of riding time.    Stephan Abas (Fresno State) and Jacob Gray (Edin) are up on Mat 7. Abas scored the first takedown within the first minute of the first period, then turned Gray for 2 nearfall. Abas again turned Gray for another 3 nearfall points and currently has him in pin position. At the end of the first period, Abas leads 9-1. Abas gets tht fall at 4:38.    Kore Sharpley (Ohio State) lost to Shawn Amistade (Pitt). Amistade will face Abas next round.    Ryan Escobar (Illinois) and Omar Porratta (Millersville) are tied 2-2 in the end of the second period. Escobar wins the match 9-2    #5 seed Matt Ridings (Okla) and Shaun Williams (Oregon) are up. Williams is leading 4-2  midway through the first period. With an escape at the start of the second period, Williams leads 4-3 in the second period. Ridings scored a takedown in the second period and leads 5-4 at the end of the second period. In the third period Ridings scored another takedown and now leads 7-4. After a nearfall turn and riding time, Ridings wins the match 11-4.    Tommy Hoang (Duke) just pinned Jason Powell #4 seed to advance to the next round.    #1 seed Eric Jurgens lead over Derek Hayes(Fresno St.), 4-1 at the end of the first period. Jurgens gets the pin 3:33. Iowa has had two matches, both resulting in pins.    #3 seed Todd Beckerman (Nebraska) is up against Nick Boucher (Cleveland St.). Beckerman leads 2-0. At the end of the match, Beckerman wins 14-5.    #7 seed Matt Azevedo (ISU) leads Dylan Long (UNI) 6-3 at the end of the first period. Azevedo wins 12-4    #2 seed Johnny Thompson (OSU) is up against Maurat Tomaev (Penn State). Thompson wins by tech fall 18-3.    #10 seed Brett Lawrence (MN) defeated Derek Butts (Howard) 20-1 narrowly missing a pin at the end of the match.    #1 seed Doug Schwab (Iowa) tech falled Mark Conley (Navy).    #1 seed TJ WIlliams is up against Joe Carr (W. Virginia). Williams leads 4-1 at the end of the first period. At the end of the second period Williams leads 8-2. Wiliams wins the match 11-4    Jesse Janzen of Harvard loses in OT to Mike Kulczycki (Mich), 9-4    Reggie Wright (OSU) gets a major decision 9-1 over Dana Holland (ASU)    #2 seed Jared Lawrence (Minnesota) vs. Adam Britt (VMI) at 149 pounds.  Lawrence leads 8-3 at the end of the second period.  Lawrence gains a major decision 13-4.      #4 seed Eric Jorgenson (Oregon State) leads Max Odom (Harvard) 7-0 midway through the second period.  Joregenson hold 3:31 of riding time at the end of the second.  Jorgenson leads 8-0 start of the third and scores a takedown to lead 10-0.  Jorgenson wins 13-1.      #12 seed Shane Roller (Oklahoma State) gains the fall with :28 left in the third against Timothy Huxell (Air Force).      #2 seed Bryan Snyder (Nebraska) is up against  Sulieman Mumin on Mat 1. Snyder pinned Mumin at 4:00.    #12 seed Iam Nelms (Cal State-Backersfield) is up against Tony Denke (Nebraska) on mat 6. Denke scored the first takedown and leads 4-1 at the end of the first period with riding time. At the end of the second period, Denke leads 4-2 with nearly two minutes of riding time. Denke upsets the #12 seed with a decision, 11-6    Donny Pritzlaff (Wisc) tech falled Luke Larwin (Oregon) 26-8    Robbie Waller is leading 2-0 against Hunter Guenot (Bloomsburg) at the end of the first period. Waller wins the match 3-1.    Unseeded Chris Pendleton (Oklahoma State) faces #9 Kevin Stanley (Indiana).  Pendelton gives up the first takedown and trail 2-0.  Pendleton escapes and trails 2-1.  Pendelton trails 4-1 at the end of the first.  Pendelton trails by a takedown in the third, Stanley gets the takedown.  Stanley leads 6-2.  Stanley wins.      At 165 pounds, #3 seed Steve Blackford of Arizona State falls behind 5-1 after nearly getting pinned by Chris Vitale of Lehigh.   Both wrestlers traded reversals in wild scrambles; Vitale leads 7-3.  over his highly ranked opponent.  Blackford steps behind into a standing guillotine and gets another reversal but trails 7-5.  Vitale keeps fighting and comes up with another reversal which nearly turns into nearfall with a half.  Vitale leads 9-6.  Blackford chooses bottom.  Blackford looks tired and trails 11-8. Vitale chooses bottom.  Vitale defeats the #3 seed 12-9 to advance.       Joe Heskett (ISU) and Noel Thompson (Hofstra) are tied 0-0 at the end of the first period. Thompson gave up the escape and then scored a takedown against Heskett. After another escape, the score is tied at 2-2 going into the third period. Thompson scored a takedown at the edge of the mat to take a 4-2 lead with :54 seconds left in the match. Heskett scores an escape and takedown to take the lead 5-4 and has wiped off the riding time advantage. Thompson scores an escape to tie the match and take it to OT. The match has now moved to the :30 second 2OT. Thompson chose down and was not able to escape. Heskett wins the match.    Ben Shirk (Iowa) major decisioned Burt Pierson (UC-Davis) 10-1.    #12 seed Ati Conner (Nebraska) major decisioned Adrian Garcia (UC-Davis) 15-7.    #5 seed Gabe McMahan (Iowa) leads 5-3 over Dustin Kawa (NC State).  Kawa took injury time at the end of the first period after a standing granby attempt.  McMahan chooses bottom to start the second.  McMahan escapes and leads 6-3.  McMahan leads 10-4 to start the third.  Iowa has been working hard for bonus points in every bout.  McMahan gains the major with a 13-5 victory.        **The protest committee has just be called to the protest room. There is no confirmation, but it sounds as if the Heskett v. Thompson match is being protested. TheMat.com will provide updates as more information is made available.    Cael Sanderson is now up for his first match of the tournament. He faces Kyle Hansen of Northern Iowa. Sanderson leads 9-2 at the end of the first period with nearly 2 minutes of riding time. Sanderson tech falled Hansen 24-8    In a huge upset, #5 seed Damion Hahn (Minn) fell to Scott Justus (Virginia Tech) 6-5.    #9 Cash Edwards (Boise State) wins a 2OT tie breaker with an escape over Jimi Massey (Virginia).    **The protest at the 165-Pound match Heskett v. Thompson was not upheld. The match result stands with Heskett as the winner.    On Mat 8, #5 seed Owen Elzen pinned Eric Mausser of Clarion.    **The protest committee has been reconvened in the protest room again. There is no indication which match is being protested. Updates will follow as information is made available.    #2 seed Brad Vering is leading leonard Bridgforth (Delaware) 2-1 at the end of the first period. Vering now leads 7-1 with riding time. Vering wins the 12-4 decision.    #1 seed and Olympic Bronze Medalist Garrett Lowney leads Bronson Ligamfelter (Brown) 4-1 at the end of the first period. At the end of the second period, Lowney leads 5-2 with riding time. Lowney wins 6-2    #6 Chael Sonnen (Oregon) was upset in an 8-7 decision by Craig Rumsey (Wyoming)    #3 seed Antonio Garray pinned Matt Kenny in the second period.    #2 seed Tommy Rowlands decisioned Josh Pearce (Edinboro), 9-5
