USABA POSITION VACANCY DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:  USABA National Wrestling Program Coordinator/Coach

ORGANZIATION:  United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA)

SUMMARY:
The United States Association is seeking an individual to serve as program coordinator and coach for a new National wrestling program.   The incumbent will develop, pl;an and implement specific, targeted initiatives to identify and develop athletes who are blind and visually impaired with the intent achieving specific programmatic and performance-based outcomes each year between 2008-2012.  This is a volunteer position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Major functions include, but are not limited to the following:

1.  In concert with USABA staff, assist in the planning and implementation of outreach and athlete development strategies for wrestling.

2. Monitor athlete progress towards achieving USABA-established wrestling program goals and objectives

3. Cultivate an outreach and development network, including but limited to State Schools for the Blind, NGBs, Community Based Organizations, Agencies serving the Blind and Visually Impaired, etc.

4. Oversee the development of and execution of sport governance strategies.

5. Track and monitor athlete progress, communicating with athletes, local coaches, parents, etc on a periodic basis. 

6. Promote USABA and the sport of wrestling by writing informational and educational articles and releases to USABA, USA Wrestling, State Schools for the Blind, agencies Serving the Blind, etc.

7. Perform other duties assigned by the USABA Director of Sports Development

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Mandatory knowledge and experience in coaching wrestlers.  USA Wrestling coaching certification desirable; must be able to become certified if not currently certified.
- Minimum five (5) years experience with sports and/or working with people with disabilities.
- High degree of familiarity with sport for people who are blind and visually impaired, the mission and philosophy of USABA programs, and the operations of various sport organizations serving people who are blind and visually impaired and/or with other disabilities. 
- Background in Sports Administration or related field desirable, but not mandatory.
- Service-oriented professional approach to interaction with internal and external collaborators.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to use word processing/database software.
