Stanford's Matt Gentry, the Cardinal's current Volunteer Assistant Coach, topped Tyler Marghetis to nab the 74 kg spot on the Canadian Olympic Team on Saturday. Gentry will now look to qualify for the 2008 Olympics at the Pan Am Championships in February.

Gentry began the event at the top of the qualifying ladder, earning an automatic berth in the finals. In the best of three series, Gentry bested Marghetis 3-0, 3-2 and 4-0, 2-0 to finish on top.

Gentry will now look to qualify for next summer's Olympics, with the first opportunity being at the Pan Am Championships in February in Colorado Springs, Colo. Gentry won his first major international medal, a bronze, at the Pan Am Games in July, and has won two consecutive Canadian Senior National Championships.
