EDMOND, Okla. -- Nebraska-Kearney took over as the No. 1 team in NCAA Division II wrestling, with the Lopers the near-unanimous pick in the first regular-season poll released by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches' Association Thursday. UNK, last year's national runner-up, shared the No. 1 spot with defending champion Central Oklahoma in the preseason poll before taking the position be itself. The Lopers earned seven of the eight first-place votes cast in balloting of coaches from around the country and finished with 158 points. Minnesota State-Mankato moved up from third to second with 152 points, while the Bronchos dropped to third with 140. Adams State (Colo.) and Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.) stayed fourth and fifth, respectively, and rounding out the top 10 was Upper Iowa, Nebraska-Omaha, Western State (Colo.), Newberry (S.C.) and Ashland (Ohio). The 2008 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships will be hosted by Upper Iowa on March 14-15 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
