U.S. women's freestyle team wins four gold medals at the Yasar Dagu Tournament in Ankara, Turkey, March 2 Four members of the U.S. women's freestyle team won gold medals at the Yasar Dagu Tournament in Ankara, Turkey, March 2. Final match results are not in yet, but will be posted when received. Jenny Wong (Stillwater, Minn./Sunkist Kids) won the gold medal at 112.25 pounds, her second international win in a row. She also won the Missouri Valley Open in January. Wong is currently ranked third in the U.S. and placed third in the 2000 U.S. Nationals. Tina Wilson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) won the gold at 123.25 pounds. Wilson placed sixth in the 1999 World Championships and was a member of the 2000 World Championship team. At 149.75 pounds, Tocarra Montgomery (Cleveland, Ohio/Sunkist Kids) won her third international tournament in a row. She also won the Sunkist Kids International in November and the Manitoba Open in Canada in February. Montgomery is a senior in high school this year and she finished fourth in the 2000 U.S. Nationals. 2000 World Team member Iris Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) won the gold medal at 165.25 pounds. Smith is the 2000 U.S. Nationals champion, and competed in the 2000 World Championships. At 136.5 pounds, Tonya Evinger (Bates City, Mo./Missouri Valley) finished third. Evinger placed second in the 2000 World Team Trials and the 2000 U.S. Nationals.
