USA Wrestling has updated its new "Bout of the Week" which has been posted as a video file on-line on TheMat.com Audio/Video website .
The featured match this week is the freestyle finals match at 84 kg/185 lbs. from the Sunkist Kids International Open on Oct. 28 in Chandler, Ariz.
Past two-time NCAA champion Chris Pendleton pulled out a wild match over 2007 NCAA champion Jake Herbert in the final round of the Sunkist event.
Pendleton won the first period 3-0 before Herbert rebounded to win the second period 3-1. Pendleton took command in the third period before Herbert was able to close within 5-4. Herbert tried desperately to turn Pendleton in the final seconds, but Pendleton countered effectively and caught Herbert on his back for a pin with five seconds left in the bout.
Pendleton followed that performance by placing second at the New York AC Holiday International on Nov. 18. He fell to Russia's Alexander Kusraev in the finals.
Pendleton (Stillwater, Okla./Gator WC) was a member of the U.S. National Team for 2005-06. He won NCAA titles for Oklahoma State in 2004 and 2005, and was a three-time All-American for the Cowboys.
Herbert (Wexford, Pa./New York AC) won his first NCAA title this past March as a junior for Northwestern. He placed third in the NCAA meet as a freshman and second as a sophomore. He is taking an Olympic redshirt this season.
Herbert beat 2006 World Team member Andy Hrovat in the semifinals of the Sunkist Kids event.
This popular feature will be changed on a regular basis, allowing members to enjoy many of the greatest matches in wrestling history. Many other entertaining and historic matches are in the archive section for the Bout of the Week. The most recent Bout of the Week added to the website was the Cary Kolat vs. Eric Larkin men's freestyle finals match at 66 kg at the 2007 Sunkist Kids International.
