Justin Ruiz (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC), claimed a gold medal at 96 kg/211.5 pounds during the final day of competition at the Vantaa Cup in Vantaa, Finland on Sunday. It was the third gold medal won by an American Greco-Roman wrestler during the two-day tournament. Capturing titles on Saturday were Brad Vering (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Dremiel Byers (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Ruiz, a 2005 World bronze medalist, won four matches to claim the title. He defeated Timo Kallio of Finland in the gold-medal finals, 2-0, 1-1, 5-0. Other victories were over Pasi Pietila of Finland, 4-0, 7-0, Justin Millard of the United States, 2-4, 7-0, 6-0 and Kim Jung-Sub of Korea by pin in 1:23. No other U.S. wrestlers won medals on Sunday.
