Sue Siar of Glenshaw, Pa. has been named the Junior Person of the Year by USA Wrestling, the national governing body for amateur wrestling in the United States. This award goes to a nationally respected leader who works with athletes and programs on the Junior level (grades 9-12).

This is the second time Siar has been recognized for her achievements on the Junior level. She shared the Junior Person of the Year Award with her husband Bob Siar in 1999.

Siar has won a number of other major USA Wrestling awards. She was the 2000 Kids Person of the Year, the 1999 USA Wrestling Woman of the Year and the 1991 Official of the Year. She also received the Bernie Norris Award for pairing excellence in 1998.

Sue has been involved in tournament operations year round, working at youth, high school and collegiate tournaments on the state, regional, national and international levels. 

She has been especially active on the Junior level, running the pairing operations at the ASICS Vaughan Junior National Championships for many years. She has attended every Junior Nationals event except two since 1978, helping operate the world's largest wrestling tournament in an efficient manner.

Siar has worked as a pairing official at the Northeast Junior Regionals for the last 30 years. Every year since the mid-1980's, she has been either the Chief Pairing Official or an assigned pairing official for the competition. 

She has served as a pairing official for every Western Junior Regional Championships except two since 1990. Siar has also been on the pairing team at the Southeast Junior Regionals a number of times.

Sue was a FILA Pairing official from 1983-2006. She is a Category 1-E Pairing Official in the United States. 

She has worked many of the most important events in the world. She was the Chief Pairer at two Olympic Games, the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Ga., and the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. She was also a pairing official at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Among the other world-level events which she has worked were the 1990 Greco-Roman World Championships in Rome, Italy and the 1995 Freestyle World Championships in Atlanta, Ga. and the 1999 Junior World Championships in Sydney, Australia.

Other top assignments have included the World Military Wrestling Championships, the Freestyle and Greco-Roman World Cups, the Five Continents Cup and many, many others. 

She has been a member of the USWOA Executive Board for many years. Siar has served as the National Pairing Director within USA Wrestling since 1993. She wrote a clinic manual for pairers in the United States, and was instrumental in organizing and writing the first "Policies and Procedures Manual" for USWOA pairing officials. 

Siar received a Lifetime Service Award for officiating from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, and is a member of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame.

"I am truly honored to be recognized by my peers. I truly enjoy working the Junior tournaments," said Siar. "The Northeast Junior Tournament is important to me. I will work that event as long as I am able. I have worked it every time since our son first wrestled in it back in 1977."
