"Beating like half the world definitely makes you feel a lot better when you're going in to face the rest of it. I think in the South American countries there are a lot of real good Judo girls and they're just real scrappy and they have a lot of fight in them. It's winning a different kind of a battle - not the technical battle but more the grind battle. Canada is always a really tough opponent."
"It was pretty unbelievable to win all four weight classes the last time we wrestled in the Pan Am Games. It was great to be a part of it."
"Every time that you go out there in a big event like this when there's a lot of pressures, there's cameras and you're winning medals for your country, it's a good experience to wrestle in that kind of heat and pressure. It's real good for us. Anytime you get this type of competition it gets you sharper."
"Losing in the Worlds is always a good motivator. I'm in a better situation training-wise. I am in more of a solid, structured training environment and I thrive better under that environment."
"Being able to train with guys I always feel a lot stronger when I go back to wrestling with girls. I can move them and they actually move. Trent (Goodale) knows freestyle really well and he can turn me. Not many girls in the World can turn me, so it helps wrestling with somebody like Trent."
72 kg/158.5 lbs. - Kristie Marano, Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC)
Will face Sulmira Brea of the Dominican Republic in her first match
"I'm excited to wrestle in this event. I think this is good preparation for the Worlds. Canada is probably the only girl I have faced in my bracket, so this will be a good experience for me."
"I'm feeling real good right now. My shoulder feels great now and I'm ready to go."
"Obviously we want to do as well as we did last time and we all expect to do that well."
USA Women's Freestyle Coach Terry Steiner
"We have the athletes that can win and we expect to win. But we're going to have to wrestle tough because nobody is going to lay down for us. You kind of have a target on your back if you have the kind of success we had last time at this event. We've got to be ready to go."
