COLORADO SPRINGS----Friday is the deadline for amateur athletes in Colorado and across the nation to register for competition in 11 of the 29 sports offered by the 2007 State Games of America, Aug.2-5 in Colorado Springs.

Athletes have through Friday to still sign up to compete in Five-on-Five Basketball, Field Hockey, Youth & Adult Flag Football, Golf, Gymnastics, InLine Hockey, Powerlifting, Adult Soccer, Slow Pitch Softball, Tennis, and Track & Field.

Competitors from across the nation can still register at:  www.stategames.org then click on the State Games of America logo for complete registration information, lodging and accommodations information, ticket details and much more.

Still with ample room for athletes to register are Wrestling (37%), Cycling (13%), Diving (46%), Judo (11%), Racquetball (45%), Shooting (53%), Table Tennis (32%) and even Track & Field (65%).

Already 7,347 athletes from 46 states have signed up to compete, a figure that is almost identical to the record pace set in 2005, when 9,462 athletes came to the city for the State Games of America.

Already closed out are Figure Skating (1,107 skaters), and Adult/Competitive/High School Soccer (118 teams, 1,888 athletes). Only one session (August 5) of individual Swimming events is still open (546 swimmers).

Sports that are nearing full capacity are: Basketball (99%), Bowling (80%), Gymnastics (over goal at 112%), Soccer (over goal at 114%), and Swimming (over goal at 105%).
