Harvard Wrestling Coach Jay Weiss announced the hiring of Pat Owen as assistant coach for the Crimson. Owen will replace Olympic silver medalist Jamill Kelly, who has accepted a position at USA Wrestling in Colorado Springs.

"I am very excited to welcome Pat into the Harvard wrestling family," Weiss said. "Pat brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program. Obviously losing the caliber of coaching in Jamill Kelly and Jesse Jantzen '04 is always difficult for any program. I am happy for them both as their new positions will help them achieve their goals. Pat's success on and off the mat along with his coaching ability will help us reach our goals in many ways. He has a great philosophy that will mesh quite well with our already established program's mission." 

Owen, a 2004 Michigan graduate, is a three-time NCAA qualifier and comes to Harvard after a one-year stint at MIT. Prior to arriving in Cambridge, Owen worked at Cliff Keen Athletic and served as an assistant coach for his alma mater from 2004 to 2006. He helped lead the Wolverines to a second-place finish at the 2005 NCAA Championships Â- the highest finish in program history. 

As an undergraduate, Owen succeeded on the mat and in the classroom. He was a four-time U of M Athletic-Academic Achievement Award winner, a three-time academic All-American and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten recipient. He served as team captain in his final season. As a senior he also received the Big Ten Medal of Honor, the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and the Snip Nalan Scholarship for academic and athletic character. He was also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council, the Michigan Peer Advisors Creating Trust and the Athletic Director's Leadership Forum.
