USA Wrestling statement August 25, 2000 As a result of the ruling of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, issued on August 24, 2000, and the award issued by Arbitrator A. Bruce Campbell on August 24, 2000, USA Wrestling faces what appears to be conflicting rulings concerning the 76 kg position on the U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman Wrestling Team. USA Wrestling has taken action it believes is appropriate to comply with the ruling of U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit as well as the directive of Arbitrator Campbell, and has communicated its position to the U.S. Olympic Committee. This was done within the time deadline imposed upon USA Wrestling. USA Wrestling is disappointed by, and disagrees with, the disposition of matters by the Court of Appeals. Arbitrator Campbell's award is consistent with the position taken by USA Wrestling in that arbitration hearing. The matter is now in the hands of the U.S. Olympic Committee, to take appropriate action to certify the membership of the U.S. Olympic Team for wrestling.
