LAS VEGAS - Nate Gallick's quest to make his first U.S. World Team will have to wait.

For at least a few weeks anyway.

Gallick, the 2007 U.S. Nationals freestyle champion at 60 kg/132 lbs., has requested and received an extension by USA Wrestling to compete for his spot on the U.S. World Team at a later date. Gallick has been sidelined with an injury.

The U.S. World Team Trials are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Gallick, by virtue of winning U.S. Nationals and having clinched a spot in the World Team Trials finals, has the right to request a Special Wrestle-Off at a later date if he is injured.

Gallick, a 2006 NCAA champion for Iowa State, had clinched a spot in the best-of-3 final round series for the World Team Trials by virtue of winning U.S. Nationals and being a past World University champion.

Gallick (Ames, Iowa/Sunkist Kids) will now meet the winner of this weekend's World Team Trials at a date and site to be determined. The World Championships are set for Sept. 17-23 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

2006 World silver medalist Mike Zadick (Solon, Iowa/Gator WC), second to Gallick at the U.S. Nationals, will be the No. 1 seed for the Challenge Tournament at 60 kg/132 lbs. Shawn Bunch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC), third at U.S. Nationals, will be the No. 2 seed.

With Gallick out now, the finalists of the Challenge Tournament will now meet in a best-of-3 series when the competition at 60 kilos is held on Saturday.

The remaining seeds at 60 kilos were set to be determined after weigh-ins late Friday afternoon in Las Vegas.
