Summer is arriving, and USA Wrestling's Beach Wrestling schedule is heating up with plenty of action in May. There are four exciting sanctioned Beach Wrestling events held across the nation this month, offering wrestlers of all ages a chance for top quality competition, as well as the fun and excitement that comes with a day at the beach. May events will be held in New Mexico, Arizona, Oregon and California, each with their own special activities and attractions. These early season events will offer athletes a chance to improve their Beach Wrestling skills, in preparation for the 2007 U.S. Beach National Championships, which will be held in Rochester, N.Y., July 6-8. Kicking off the action this Saturday, May, 5, is the Playa Seca Nationals at Rio Rancho Middle School in Rio Rancho, N.M. Playa Seca means "Dry Beach," and this annual Beach Wrestling event helps celebrate Cinco de Mayo with great competition and fun activities. Contact Rusty Davidson at 505-980-9041 for details. Next up on Sunday, May 13, is the Arizona USA Wrestling Beach Wrestling Tournament at Jacob's Ranch Community in Apache Junction, Ariz. This tournament is for athletes in grades 9-12. There will be creative prize awards for the finalists in each weight class, including funding towards the ASICS Junior Nationals or Advocare Cadet Nationals trip, or other prize options. Included will be Senior, High School and Kids divisions for both men and women. There will be prize money in the Senior division. This event grows in size and popularity each year. For more information, visit http://www.beachwrestling.tv An exciting new event is set for Saturday, May 19 and Sunday May 20, the Southern California Beach Wrestling Championships at Oceanside, Calif. The event is presented by Frank Lipoli, who has presented innovative and successful Beach events in Virginia in past years. Saturday will feature the Beach Brawl Individual Championships, with Elementary, Middle School, High School and Open divisions. A King of the Beach Award is set for each division. On Sunday, the popular "Beach Bully Team Duals" will be held, with organized teams as well as a draft for unaffiliated athletes. This Beach Wrestling Schedule will be updated on a regular basis all spring and summer. If you will be hosting a USA Wrestling-sanctioned Beach Wrestling event and wish to be included in this schedule, send complete information to Gary Abbott of USA Wrestling at gabbott@usawrestling.org or via phone at 719-598-8181. All wrestlers are encouraged to attend Beach Wrestling events. It is a great opportunity for competitive wrestling, while having a great time with their friends within the sport.
