Wisconsin's Cole Schmitt named OW in Greco-Roman at FILA Cadet Nationals

AKRON, Ohio - Wisconsin's Cole Schmitt was named Outstanding Wrestler after winning a FILA Cadet Nationals title Friday in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Schmitt outlasted Utah's Jason Chamberlain 2-3, 2-1, 4-1 at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. in the final round at the University of Akron's Athletics Field House. Schmitt added the title to the Greco-Roman crown he won last year at Cadet Nationals in Fargo, N.D.
There were no returning champions in the FILA Cadet Nationals in Greco-Roman.
Among the noteworthy FILA Cadet Nationals winners was Missouri's Ryan Mango, a double Cadet Nationals champion who won Kids Folkstyle Nationals earlier this year. Mango, whose brother Spenser won a University Nationals title Friday, edged Ohio's Jamie Clark 2-1, 3-3, 5-5 to win the FILA Cadet Nationals title at 46 kg/101.25 lbs.
Mango earlier topped Triple Crown winner and Ultimate Dominator winner Jesse Thielke of Wisconsin 6-0, 1-5, 3-3. Thielke finished third by beating past USA Wrestling national champion Sharky Slyter of Kansas.
The balance of the champions from the FILA Cadet Nationals in Greco-Roman included Oregon's Alex Kostenborder at 42 kg/92.5 lbs., New Jersey's Gabriel Ramos at 50 kg/110 lbs., Jimmy Chase of Illinois at 54 kg/119 lbs., Iowa's Dylan Carew at 58 kg/127.75 lbs., Wisconsin's Ben Provisor at 69 kg/152 lbs., Ohio's Derrick Yant at 76 kg/167.5 lbs., Romero Cotton of Kansas at 85 kg/187.25 lbs., Florida's Dustin Meloche at 100 kg/220.25 lbs. and Atticus Disney of Kansas at 125 kg/275 lbs.
Carew, Provisor and Cotton won Greco-Roman titles at Cadet Nationals in 2006.
The FILA Cadet Nationals for freestyle are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Akron.
