KRASNOYARSK, RUSSIA - The United States lost both of its dual meets in pool competition, and will compete for fifth place at the Freestyle World Cup. The U.S. team opened the dual meet competition with a 6-1 loss to Iran. In their second pool match, the U.S. fell to Uzbekistan, 4-3. The World Cup is the international dual meet championships, featuring the top six nations in the world. In the match against Iran, the only U.S. winner was 2006 U.S. Nationals champion Henry Cejudo (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 55 kg/121 lbs., who won a three-period match. 2006 World bronze medalist Donny Pritzlaff lost a three-period match against Iran, when he was called for grabbing the singlet in the third and final period of his 0-1, 2-0, 1-1 match at 74 kg/163 lbs. The winners in the dual meet against Uzbekistan were 2006 World silver medalist Mike Zadick (Solon, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) at 60 kg/132 lbs., Mo Lawal (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. and 2005 World bronze medalist Tolly Thompson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Sunkist Kids) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. The United States will be in the fifth-place match on Sunday. "Team USA has a lot of work to do in preparations for the Pan American Games and the World Championships this summer," said National Freestyle Coach Kevin Jackson. "I feel many of our athletes have not put in the necessary training throughout the year that is necessary for world success. The sooner our athletes make the World Team and begin their day to day preparation the better." Russia will face Iran in the gold medal match for the team title. Iran defeated Uzbekistan, 5-2, to capture their pool. Russia swept both of its pool matches with identical 7-0 shutouts, beating both Ukraine and Georgia.
