MARQUETTE, Mich.-The United States Olympic Education Center will be welcoming four new freestyle wrestlers next fall.
Athletes joining the USOEC include Lindsey Brooks (Klein, TX), Wrindy Shann (Sault St. Marie, Mich.), Vanessa Epps (Frisco, TX) and Schuyler Brown (Montpelier, VA). Each of the women will begin their college career in the fall at Northern Michigan University while training at the USOEC.
Head coach Shannyn Gillespie sees their youth as an advantage and is looking forward to training the new recruits.
"For younger athletes, the learning curve is greater because they have not yet formed bad habits," said Gillespie. "Their age will also make the growing pains of going from a junior level to a senior level easier."
The USOEC is one of four Olympic training centers in the country and the only one located on a college campus. The program has produced successful women freestyle wrestlers, such as national champion Sharon Jacobson, World Team member Mary Kelly and junior world medalist Dany Hedin.
