In conjunction with the 2007 NCAA Division I National Championships, USA Wrestling and Michigan-USA Wrestling are proud to host a free wrestling clinic for all USA Wrestling members.
The clinic will take place on Sunday, March 18, at Oxford High School, in Oxford, Mich. The clinic starts at 9:00 a.m, and will finish at 1:00 p.m. Click Here For Clinic Flyer
This Gold Medal Wrestling Clinic will feature as clinicians two of the sport's greatest stars. 1984 Olympic Champion Steve Fraser and 2006 World Champion Joe Warren, both Michigan natives and former All-Americans for the University of Michigan.
Fraser, a Hazel Park, Mich. native, is USA Wrestling's Greco-Roman National Coach. In addition to winning a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics in Greco-Roman, Fraser was a 3-time World Team member, and won U.S. National titles in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.
Warren, who recently added to his World Championship with a gold medal at the 2007 World Cup, hails from Grand Rapids, Mich. While attending East Kentwood High School, he set the national high school record for takedowns in a season. Known as the "Baddest Man on the Planet," Warren has his sights set on a repeat performance at the 2007 World Championships.
With the NCAA Championships held in Auburn Hills this year, Michigan - USA Wrestling led by state chairperspon Al Kastl felt it would be a perfect chance to put together a free clinic for all USA Wrestling members. It is USA Wrestling's hope that this clinic is the first of many free clinics to be held in conjunction with future NCAA Division I Championships.
There will also be a National Coaches Education Program (NCEP) Bronze Coaches Clinic for individuals interested in receiving Bronze Certification.
The Bronze Coaches Clinic will be conducted by USA Wrestling Freestyle Developmental Coach Dave Bennett. Bennett is also a Gold-Certified Coach and former Sunkist Kids coach.
The Bronze Clinic is scheduled to start at 9:00 AM, and finish at 1:00 PM, also. The Bronze Clinic involves a classroom session and take-home test.
It should be noted that beginning in the 2007-08 season, all coaches will need to be Bronze Certified in order to be on the floor at all USA Wrestling Junior Regional Championships.
The clinics will also serve as the kick-off to the "Next year, March will ask what you were doing in July" campaign.
Over 2,000 promotional posters will be available at the USA Wrestling booth at the NCAA Championships and at Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at the end of this month.
Wrestlers in need of a USA card will be able to purchase one at the door. In order to take the Bronze course, coaches will also need to have a USA Wrestling Coaches Membership card.
