Top-ranked Gophers crown four champions in decimating field at Big Ten Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The top-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers capped a strong weekend by rolling to their second straight title at the Big Ten Championships.

Minnesota piled up 156 points and crowned four champions. Second-place Wisconsin finished second with 99.5 points and Iowa third with 91. The Gophers and Badgers each qualified nine wrestlers for the NCAA meet on March 15-17 in Auburn Hills, Mich. Iowa will take eight wrestlers to the NCAAs.

Minnesota heavyweight Cole Konrad was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Year after capturing his third straight league title. Teammate Jayson Ness, who won the title at 125 pounds, was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Gophers coach J Robinson was named Coach of the Year.

Northwestern's Jake Herbert (184) was named Outstanding Wrestler. Wildcat teammates Ryan Lang (141) and Mike Tamillow (197) also won titles.

Brothers Dustin (149) and C.P. Schlatter (157) also repeated as Big Ten champions for Minnesota.

Other champions included Nick Simmons of Michigan State at 133, Mark Perry of Iowa at 165 and Steve Luke of Michigan at 184.
