COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Wrestling has named Randy Hinderliter of Ottawa, Kansas as the January Volunteer of the Month.  Hinderliter is being recognized for his continued work with the National Coaches Education Program in Kansas.

"Randy has been a leader in terms of Coaches Education for nearly the past decade. The amount of coaches he has educated is unparalleled," said Mark Scott, Director of State Services for USA Wrestling. "Randy's volunteering has helped Kansas and USA Wrestling immensely in educating our developmental coaches."

Since attending his first Silver Coaches College Coaches in 1999, he has been teaching NCEP courses ever since. To date, Randy has been the clinician on 52 Coaches Education courses. In addition, he has assisted on a dozen other clinics nationwide. There are over 3,000 Bronze certified coaches in Kansas, and Randy, along with USAW-Kansas, deserves a lot of the credit.

Randy has attended every Silver Coaches College since 1999. "I truly enjoy the fellowship of wrestling people and the networking that is part of every coaches college," said Hinderliter about the Silver Coaches College.

He was also part of the committee that re-wrote the NCEP Bronze text in 2005, the same year in which he became a Gold Certified coach.

Dating back to his days as a manager of the high school wrestling team in Ottawa, Randy has been involved in the sport nearly his whole life. In 1989, he started a wrestling club in Wellsville when his step-son expressed interest in wrestling.

"In my clinics, I constantly ask coaches if they are making a 'positive difference in the lives of kids.' I believe I am, by impacting coaches and sharing my passion for the sport," said Hinderliter.

Randy also notes that he feels an obligation to youth wrestlers, and that he tries to insure that wrestling gives them a positive experience.

In addition to his role with coaches education, Randy has traveled to many events with Team Kansas. While doing so, he has informed people in Kansas with the results through his internet updates. He also is the head wrestling coach at Central Heights High School near Richmond, Kansas.

When asked what the best part of being involved in USA Wrestling, Hinderliter said, "it's being a small part of an organization that truly has the best interests of the youth of America in mind."

"I am extremely grateful to USA Wrestling for what they have done for me over the past two decades.  Their programs teach lessons that I gladly share with others.  Their programs have made me a better person, a better father, and a better coach," he said.

Randy is married to his wife of 27 years, Kathy Jo. Randy has one daughter, two step-children, and four grandchildren.  He also is an avid golfer, assistant high school football coach, and stays busy in retirement by mowing lawn at a local golf course.
